So I admit it is pretty pathetic how often I update this now days. Chasing the two boys and trying to pick up little side jobs for spending cash makes it hard to find time to sit and write, especially when I so nicely update my Facebook so often so you can keep up with me there. :-)
There have been a few exciting things happen. The first was the craziest storm I have ever been in that blew threw here last Friday. I have been in a lot of storms but I have never seen anything this wild. The morning started with the doorbell ringing. I jumped out of bed with wild hair and saw my downstairs neighbor at the door. He said he had a tornado ready space if we needed to come down. I said, "oh are there storms out" (give me a break I had just got out of bed!!!) He informed me that they had tornado warnings out and we were just about to get hit. So I went and checked the TV to see that it was suppose to hit us in 10 minutes. So I got around and got some real clothes on just in case it got bad. Finally the storm did hit. The sirens started blaring and the rain was coming down. The wind was crazy. It was a strong north bond straight wind. I stood in the door and watched it cause, as everyone knows I am FASINATED with storms. I had the news on and was watching it, occasionally taking calls from Michael who was down the street at work and mom who was across town at work to tell them where the storm was. The wild part about this storm was once the initial storm hit it just kept getting worse. Normally you can watch on the map and see okay it is past us, but even though it was past us the winds were getting stronger. They did say later it was some special rare storm that was really more like a hurricane than a tornado type storm. And it was...even the map on TV looked like a hurricane and the wind was really like one.
Anyway, we decided not to go downstairs cause I am not the kind to leave my house. I am more of a ride it out and someday you will probably find me in a field type. I was still watching the wind thinking how hard it was blowing when I started noticing the wind would occasionally hit me hard in the doorway. Which seemed weird since it was blowing north and I was standing to the East. While on the phone with Mike I asked him if it was changing directions (he was standing outside at work) he said, "well it is kind of blowing everywhere." So since it was I went ahead and asked Nenaw to put the boys shoes on. About that time it got calm, and then suddenly it started blowing again but now the trees were all leaning way to the South. Now for those of you who have never been in a tornado, that is a very telling sign that you are about to be in one cause it took something spinning to turn the wind around. So as soon as I saw that I grabbed the boys and headed downstairs. All my neighbors were already down there. All the guys were standing outside. They said, "We were about to come get you cause it just changed directions!" I said, "I know that is why we are hurrying down to your place” I wanted to stand out with the guys but the wind scared Pierce so I stayed with him. The guys came running in at one point to tell us to look at all the debris flying outside. Trim and shingles were being ripped from the apartment complex and it sounded like the roof was really going to go. I swear in all the tornado's I have rode out this is really the first time I thought I was going to be IN the tornado.
Finally the winds died down and we were able to go back home. The damage was wide spread. The news reported we ended up with 13 tornados. We were lucky, we only had some shingles off but many other places close by had a lot more damage. A school only about 10 miles from here lost a portion of the roof and had a portion collapse (LUCKILY none of the children were to severely hurt) After that the winds died down, the sun came out and it turned out to be a beautiful day for clean up.
